GEF - Global Environment Facility was established in 1991 as financial mechanism managed by 3 UN Agendas: World Bank, UNEP and UNDP. Main objective of GEF is to achieve improvement of natural environment status through implementation of programmes and projects contributing to solve global key problems as: preservation of biodifferency, of international waters, of climate changes, narrowing of ozone layer and protection of soil against degradation.
Facility resources come from richest countries of the world (and also partially from some later beneficiaries) and are assigned for countries, which are not able to manage those global problems themselves. Beneficiaries of GEF are also countries that were passing through politically-economical transformations in the early 90"s and Poland among them as well.
In Poland GEF acts mainly as Small Grant Programme GEF/SGP. UNDP employees publish current information using 3W News. The same way they make available declarations, forms, reports as pdf, doc and rtf formats for interested persons.
